Pre-doctorate Program

 

Pre-Doctoral Analyst Program 

Our unique two year pre-doctorate analyst program offers training and experience in both academic and commercial research.

Successful candidates should have an interest in applying to graduate school in Economics or related disciplines at the end of the program.

This program is for highly skilled, independently motivated research scholars with strong quantitative and data analytic skills, and an interest and knowledges of Economics.


Applicants should have the following as minimum requirements: 


Responsibilities:

  • Develop code to analyze large micro data sets that include publicly available survey data, proprietary datasets and large administrative datasets. Coding will be done in Stata, R, Python or equivalent statistical package. 

  • Write and implement advanced programs to solve economic problems that include designing, implementing, testing, and comparing algorithms and models; utilize statistical packages to build large scale databases that are efficient for computing; and utilize statistical packages to visualize complicated research results into nice formats for publications and presentations. 

  • Conduct independent problem-solving with high-level directional advice. 

  • Test new computing tools to explore better options for computational research. 

  • Be fully informed on the latest developments in the relevant research areas; present findings effectively and articulately. 

  • Assist faculty to identity, assess and organize information addressing research goals. 

Skills:

  • Honors degree or Master’s degree in Economics or other quantitative field.

  • Exceptional computer programming and quantitative skills.

  • Experience with a statistical programming language such as Stata, R, or equivalent and familiarity with programming languages such as Fortran, Matlab, Julia, C or Python. 

  • Exceptional analytical , verbal and written communication skills required. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team required.  

  • Ability to commit for a minimum period of two years.

Education, Experience, and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in economic required. Advanced degree in economics preferred. Second major in computer science, mathematics or related field preferred.
