Seminar: Gig economy labour market - Uber
Time & Location
04 Aug 2021, 3:30 pm
About the event
We extend analysis of the impact of the gig economy in Australia by investigating labour market outcomes for a specific group of workers: Uber drivers. Two main data sources are used: administrative data on a one-eighth random sample of drivers who used the Uber platform in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth over a one-year period from late 2017 to 2018; and a survey of 824 drivers in Sydney and Melbourne. The main elements of our analysis are: (i) Description of the working time and schedules of Uber drivers; and analysis of the extent to which work time of Uber drivers reflects demand or supply forces; (ii) Description and analysis of the determinants of job satisfaction of Uber drivers; and (iii) Analysis of hourly earnings of Uber drivers. We also compare the main findings on the labour market for Uber drivers in Australia with other locations.
